Electric Motors

Motors matched to the driven load

Nairobi Power Engineers supplies electric motors for pumps, fans, compressors, conveyors and process machinery, matched to the driven load and to a coordinated starter and protection scheme.

We size the motor from the load duty, then select the starter method — DOL, star-delta, soft starter or VFD — and the overload and short-circuit protection so the motor starts reliably and is protected in service.

Motors are specified to IEC 60034 with the efficiency class, mounting, enclosure (IP55 typical) and insulation class chosen for the application and ambient.

Whether it is an urgent breakdown or a scheduled repair, our team is ready to respond whenever you need us.

Cost and Estimates

What drives the cost

What affects the cost?

Rating and efficiency class (IE2/IE3), mounting and frame, enclosure and insulation class, plus the matched starter and protection. Duty and starts-per-hour also drive the selection.

Get a detailed estimate

We quote the motor with its starter, overload and cabling so the whole drive is costed, not just the motor.

Efficiency and running cost

IE3 premium-efficiency motors cut running cost on continuously running loads; our team advises where the payback justifies it.

Frequently asked questions

Which starter does my motor need?
From the rating and load: DOL to about 5.5 kW, star-delta or soft starter to about 22 kW, soft starter or VFD above that. The calculator on this page gives a starting point.
DOL, soft starter or VFD?
DOL is simplest; a soft starter reduces mechanical and electrical stress on start; a VFD adds speed control and energy saving on variable loads.
What efficiency class?
IE3 is recommended for motors that run for long hours; IE2 may be acceptable for intermittent duty. We advise on the payback.
How is the overload set?
To the motor full-load current, with the thermal class chosen for the load inertia. The calculator returns the FLC to set against.
