Geared Motors & Gearboxes

Speed and torque matched to the machine

Nairobi Power Engineers supplies geared motors and gearboxes that convert motor speed into the output speed and torque a machine needs. We size the unit from the required output, the duty cycle and the service factor.

Helical, worm and bevel-helical units suit different mounting and efficiency needs; we select the ratio, mounting and service factor so the drive delivers the torque without overheating or premature wear.

Use the calculator on this page to see output speed, torque and the service-factor design torque for a given motor rating, input speed and ratio.

We offer around-the-clock emergency support across Nairobi and East Africa — keeping your plant safe and powered, day or night. Whether it is an urgent breakdown or a scheduled repair, our team is ready to respond whenever you need us.

Cost and Estimates

What drives the cost

What affects the cost?

Output torque and ratio, gearbox type and mounting, the coupled motor and the service factor for the duty. Shock loading and running hours drive the selection.

Get a detailed estimate

We quote the geared motor as a complete drive — gearbox, motor and mounting — sized for the machine.

Service factor matters

The gearbox is sized above the running torque by a service factor for the duty, so shock and continuous loads do not shorten its life.

Right gearbox type

Helical for efficiency, worm for compact right-angle drives, bevel-helical for high-torque right-angle duty.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the output speed?
Divide the motor speed by the gear ratio. The calculator on this page returns the output speed, torque and design torque.
What service factor should I use?
Uniform loads ~1.0, moderate shock ~1.4, heavy shock ~1.75; we confirm from the machine and running pattern.
Helical or worm?
Helical is more efficient and suits in-line drives; worm gives a compact right-angle drive with high ratios but lower efficiency.
Can you match to my existing motor?
Yes, we size the gearbox to the coupled motor rating and speed, or supply the complete geared-motor unit.
