EV Charging Solutions

Mode 3 AC chargers and DC ultra-fast charging stations engineered to BS 7671 Section 722 and IEC 61851

Overview

Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Solutions

As electric mobility accelerates across East Africa with electric buses, commercial fleets, and private EVs, dependable charging infrastructure is crucial. Nairobi Power Engineers designs, supplies, installs and commissions turnkey Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) for commercial plazas, residential developments, and fleet depots.

Engineered strictly in compliance with BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 (Section 722) and IEC 61851 standards, our EV charging stations feature Type 2 Mode 3 AC wallboxes (7.4 kW to 22 kW) and DC fast chargers (30 kW to 240 kW CCS2) with built-in Type B 6mA DC leakage protection, open-PEN fault detection, and OCPP 1.6/2.0 smart billing integration.

Key Features

Engineering & Build Highlights

  • Built-in 6mA DC residual direct current detecting device (RDC-DD) eliminates the need for expensive external Type B RCDs
  • Open-PEN conductor fault protection conforms to BS 7671 Section 722 without requiring separate earth rods on PME supplies
  • Dynamic Load Balancing (DLB): throttles charging speed automatically to prevent tripping the building main transformer
  • OCPP 1.6J / 2.0.1 compliant: connects with M-Pesa mobile payment platforms and third-party EV charging network operators
  • Solar EV charging integration: charges vehicles exclusively from surplus rooftop solar power generation
  • RFID card authentication and smartphone app control with automated billing and session reporting

FAQs
On PME (TN-C-S) utility grids, a broken neutral wire can energize the vehicle metal chassis to 230V, creating a deadly electrocution hazard. Open-PEN protection detects supply unbalance and instantly isolates all phases, neutral, and earth in < 4 seconds.
A 22 kW AC charger adds approx. 100–120 km of range per hour (ideal for 3–4 hour office/mall parking). A 120 kW DC fast charger charges an EV battery from 10% to 80% in just 20 to 30 minutes.
