ATS, MTS & Generator Synchronising Panels — engineering concept

Automatic Transfer Switches & Generator Control

Automatic and manual transfer panels connect a load to its selected utility or standby source. A complete ATS, its controller and its power-switching device are different items; the manufacturer references below show each one separately.

NPE can develop the transfer arrangement from your single-line diagram, generator data and load priorities. Confirm current, utilisation category, fault duty, control supply, neutral switching and transfer delays before selecting equipment. Generator synchronising requires a separate engineered design.

Enclosed Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS)

LOVATO ATP0160T4A230C600A is pictured as a complete enclosed automatic transfer switch with four-pole contactors and an ATL600 controller. The reference model is 160 A AC-1 with a 230 V AC auxiliary supply and an IP65 enclosure; it is distinct from a controller or a bare switch.

ATL600 Automatic Transfer Controller

LOVATO ATL600 is a two-source automatic transfer controller with an LCD and optical programming port, supplied at 110–240 V AC. It supervises source availability and operates a separately selected power-switching assembly. Ethernet and RS485 are not built into this model.

Motorised Four-Pole Changeover Switch

LOVATO GLCMB0200T4A230 is pictured as a motorised 200 A four-pole changeover switch. Its 208–277 V AC motor supply is distinct from the load voltage. Add the selected controller, protective devices, wiring and enclosure for a complete engineered transfer panel.

Neutral and earthingChoose three- or four-pole switching from the earthing arrangement, neutral strategy and protection study.
Synchronising / closed transitionSeparate engineered scope requiring suitable synchronising protection, interlocks and utility agreement; not a standard ATL600 ATS feature.

Engineering & Build Highlights

  • 100% mechanical and electrical interlocking prevents dangerous simultaneous mains and generator closure
  • Automatic weekly generator test exercise timer with on-load or off-load selectable modes
  • Phase failure, voltage asymmetry, and frequency out-of-bounds detection on both supply sources
  • Manual bypass switch configuration allowing full maintenance of ATS components during live operation
  • Integrated trickle battery chargers (Lovato BCE series) and engine coolant heater power feeds
  • Optional priority load shedding relays to prevent generator stalling upon sudden step-load transfers

Choose three- or four-pole switching from the earthing and neutral arrangement, generator connection and protective-device design. Four-pole switching is not a universal requirement; the engineer must coordinate the selected neutral strategy with earth-fault protection.
Closed transition temporarily parallels sources and needs suitable synchronising protection, interlocks and utility agreement. It is a separate engineered scope, not a standard feature of the pictured ATL600 controller or enclosed ATS reference. Confirm the allowable interruption for the actual load and selected equipment.
