DOL & Star-Delta Motor Starting Panels

Compare three distinct motor-starting arrangements: direct-on-line (DOL), star-delta and forward / reverse. The photographs below show genuine LOVATO manufacturer references, with the supplied components and the items still required stated separately.

The pictured references use 230 V AC control coils. Choose the motor and supply ratings, overload setting, short-circuit protection, starting duty and enclosure for the application. A 400 / 415 V motor power rating does not identify the control-coil voltage.

Direct-On-Line (DOL) Motor Starter

LOVATO M1P01812230B1 is an enclosed DOL starter with START and STOP/RESET buttons, a contactor and a 13–18 A thermal overload relay. The reference is rated 7.5 kW at 400 V with a 230 V AC coil and IP65 enclosure. Select upstream short-circuit protection separately.

Star-delta reduces starting current and starting torque compared with DOL starting. Confirm the motor has six accessible terminals and is suitable for delta running at the supply voltage. Check the load torque and acceleration duty before choosing it; heavy starting loads may need another starting method.

Phase-sequence monitoring may be included where reverse rotation would harm the equipment. Confirm the monitoring relay, control circuit and motor requirements for the application. It is separate from the forward / reverse contactor interlock and is not assumed to be included in every starter.
