This statement sets out the approach of Nairobi Power Engineers Ltd (“NPE”, “we”, “us”) to preventing modern slavery, forced labour, human trafficking and child labour in our business and supply chain. It is published in line with the transparency provisions of the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 as a voluntary statement of our practices, and reflects Kenyan labour law and the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.
NPE has a zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery, forced labour, human trafficking and child labour in any part of our business or supply chain. We expect the same standard from every supplier, contractor and subcontractor we work with.
NPE designs, builds and tests low-voltage switchgear, motor control and power distribution equipment at our workshop in Nairobi. Our supply chain covers electrical components, busbar, enclosures, cables and consumables sourced from local distributors and international manufacturers, together with contracted services such as transport, site works and installation support.
We assess suppliers and contractors before engaging them and periodically re-check key suppliers. Our expectations include that suppliers are registered businesses, employ workers lawfully with verifiable identity and age documentation, pay wages in line with applicable law, and maintain safe working conditions.
Contractors and subcontractors engaged for site work are required to meet the same standards, including verification of identity and age documentation for all directly engaged labour.
NPE employs its workforce directly under written contracts, pays wages in line with Kenyan law, and provides personal protective equipment and safe working conditions in our workshop and on site. We do not engage child labour: the minimum working age in our business is the legal minimum under Kenyan law. Apprenticeships are paid, supervised training placements.
Anyone — employees, suppliers, or members of the public — can report a concern about slavery or exploitation in our business or supply chain without fear of retaliation, by emailing sales@nairobipower.co.ke (subject “Modern slavery concern”) or calling +254 737 944 014. Reports are reviewed by senior management and, where appropriate, investigated with the relevant authorities.
This statement is reviewed annually and updated when our business or supply chain changes materially.
