Precision Current Transformers (CTs)

Accurate power metering, energy management, and overcurrent protection require high-precision current transformers that step down high primary busbar currents to standardized 5A or 1A secondary signals. Nairobi Power Engineers supplies the full line of Lovato Electric DMK series current transformers.

Available in solid-core ring types, rectangular busbar pass-through windows, and easy-install split-core configurations, our CTs feature Class 0.5, Class 0.5s, and Class 0.2s measurement accuracy, sealable terminal covers, and robust flame-retardant housings.

FAQs
The CT burden (e.g. 5VA or 10VA) must exceed the total combined resistance of the secondary wiring and the connected meter input impedance. Using 2.5 mm² copper secondary wire keeps loop impedance low and ensures accuracy.
If a current transformer is energized while its secondary is open, the core saturates and induces dangerous lethal voltages (thousands of volts) across the terminals, destroying the CT insulation and endangering personnel.
